Why I prefer meantone to equal temperament

Having dabbled for a while in alternative and historical tunings I have come to prefer meantone to equal temperament. Maybe you will agree after hearing these clips too?

• * The stretched examples are stretched by 1.5 cents per octave.
• ** TOP meantone is the theoretically optimal meantone according to Paul Elrich's work. My ears disagree though. I prefer the 1/5 - 1/6 comma meantone range.
• *** Pythagorean tuning is not a meantone tuning.
